adesso takes over Mobile Retter (Mobile Rescuer) system developer medgineering GmbH

adesso has taken over 100% of the shares in Mobile Retter e.V.’s IT service provider and system developer medgineering GmbH, which is based in Halle, Westphalia. Together with its partner Microsoft, adesso has been supporting the non-profit organisation Mobile Retter e.V. for a year now, helping extend its first-aider communication system to all dispatch centres across Germany. The aim is to offer people in life-threatening situations improved first aid using a modern notification system.

The acquisition of medgineering is a further expansion of adesso's portfolio of health industry and e-health solutions: it will allow adesso to integrate Germany's leading smartphone-based first-aider notification system solution into its portfolio, effective immediately. The system locates registered, medically trained first aiders and guides them to emergencies in their immediate vicinity using a smartphone app. That can allow a “mobile rescuer” to reach the patient faster than the notified ambulance, which takes an average of nine minutes to arrive at the scene of an emergency in Germany. Those nine minutes could mean the difference between life and death, for example in the case of a cardiac arrest.

adesso's most recent acquisition is the company behind the concept and technology for the Mobile Retter (Mobile Rescuer) first aider system. medgineering provides the association's technology platform. The system has received a number of awards and significant attention in the media. It is a comprehensive solution that complements the existing rescue process. The concept also supports the recruitment and training of first aiders, the provision of insurance coverage, the deployment follow-up process, and addresses issues including legal security and data protection.

Dr. Ralf Stroop, an emergency medic, is the spiritual father of the Mobile Retter (Mobile Rescuer) concept. As the former managing director of medgineering GmbH, he feels good about handing over leadership of the project to adesso: “This step will take the solution, and the performance of medgineering, to the next level. Now adesso's comprehensive expert knowledge in the areas of technology, insurance, data protection and service management will flow into its products. That will improve the quality of the system and significantly broaden its prospects.”

Markus Lünsmann, head of the Microsoft area at adesso, will also take responsibility for medgineering GmbH as the new managing director. “Thanks to its expertise in the field of e-healthcare, medgineering is a perfect fit for our digitalisation strategy in the healthcare sector. It also gives adesso access to the network of individuals who support this non-profit initiative. IT has rarely allowed us to have such a direct impact on the health of people in our country.”

The Mobile Retter (Mobile Rescuer) app is available for free from the App Store. In case of an emergency, the app automatically connects registered first aiders with the Mobile Retter server and the dispatch centre, notifies them and guides them to the location.

medgineering GmbH's current system allows Mobile Retter (Mobile Rescuer) to cover more than 5 million residents throughout Germany. More than 7,500 “mobile rescuers” are already registered and use the system in the country. Approximately 5,000 alerts have been sent via the system.
