adesso’s Media Day in Hamburg to show newspaper publishers the opportunities of digitalisation

adesso AG is organising its first Media Day for newspaper publishers to be held on 13 October 2016. At its offices located at Hamburg’s harbour, the IT service provider aims to provide food for thought concerning how publishers can reconcile the needs of a digitally driven readership with their own economic interests.

adesso’s Media Day, bearing the slogan “Opportunities of digitalisation”, is dedicated to the fundamental change in the newspaper industry. The industry has been mired in crisis for more than 20 years, as successful business models are being challenged by freely available online news. Although many publishers have since put great effort into developing their online strategies, business models that are viable in the long term are still in short supply.

In moderated round-table sessions, the Media Day hosted by adesso will provide newspaper publishers with the opportunity to actively tackle the key issues of digitalisation. Using the Interaction Room, the IT service provider will also demonstrate an intuitive method for efficiently developing business and IT processes. adesso has lined up well-known speakers from SPIEGEL, kununu and the micropayment provider Laterpay to give the keynote speeches at Media Day.

The head of adesso’s office in Hamburg, Uwe Lutter, is in charge of the Media Day event. Before coming to work for the IT service provider, Lutter spent many years as an IT manager at the German Press Agency (dpa) Group, which is why he is very familiar with the challenges of the media industry.

“I am greatly concerned about the future of German newspapers and serious journalism,” Lutter says. “I would like to encourage newspapers to leave their familiar comfort zone once and for all and to develop and try out creative new ideas that they can use to reconcile the needs of an increasingly digitally driven readership with their own legitimate business interests.”
